Walled Garden

Garden

The walled kitchen garden originally extended up past the stables into what was once the orchard with its fruit and cherry trees and where the blossom is spectacular in the spring. The kitchen garden itself has been in continuous production for over 300 years and is lined with espalliered fruit trees, some very old and have grown rather wild with neglect.

We have created a herb garden in one corner of it and use as much home-grown vegetables, herbs and fruit in Katie's cooking as is practical. The garden also has its own flower beds planted in cottage style as a jumble of colour and with the overflowing sweatpea wigwams that line the big vegetable beds, and the marigolds to distract insects, this garden is a riot by summer.
